Saint Devote would be born in 283 AD at the place known as Querci, situated in the present town of Lucciana near the antique roman site of Mariana. It is on this very place that Mr François Lorenzi, a prior of the “Cunfraterna di Santa Divota”, built an oratory paying tribute to the Saint.

A fisherman wanted to steal the Saint’s relics. To punish him, some other fishermen seized his boat and burnt it as a mark of reprisal and as an expiatory sacrifice.
